Laser Treatments, skin rejuvenation
The skin’s appearance changes over time. Aging, environmental factors, stress, and sun damage all affect the skin of every single person on the planet. Laser resurfacing is a treatment used to reduce facial wrinkles, blemishes, acne scars, uneven skin tone, and skin irregularities. “Laser” stands for Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation. Laser resurfacing directs short, concentrated pulsating beams of light on the surface of the skin to treat specific skin cells without harming the surrounding or underlying tissues.
Women and men are candidates for laser resurfacing procedures. The only patients that are not good candidates are those with very dark skin and those with severe acne. Dark skin can be negatively affected by lasers because the pulsating light can cause irregularities in the skin tone, leaving light patches after treatment. Those with severe acne are often untreatable for laser resurfacing, but may be good candidates for laser treatments that are specifically targeted at acne prone skin.
Choosing a board certified physician with experience and knowledge of the laser-skin tissue interaction is extremely important. The skin’s underlying layers are delicate features and require safe laser treatments. Dr. Hunter Moyer proudly serves patients with excellence in laser resurfacing and other skin rejuvenation services. Laser therapy is a safe procedure in the hands of a talented and experienced plastic surgeon.
Laser resurfacing is generally sought after by those with superficial skin irregularities or fine lines and wrinkles. Done as an outpatient procedure, laser resurfacing takes anywhere from thirty minutes to two hours, depending on whether single parts of the face are being treated or a full-face treatment is being done. Patients are given instructions for care at home to prevent scabs from forming. In general, the treated area heals in ten to twenty days, depending on the procedure.
The most important component of any laser resurfacing treatment is the skill and expertise of the operator. Dr. Hunter R. Moyer of Atlanta Plastic Surgery offers laser treatments to help patients feel and look more confident in their own skin. Contact our practice today to schedule a consultation.
